Thousands of £s and a trip to India to be won with Corus

As some of you may know, Corus is now owned by the Indian company TATA. Therefore it is also worth mentioning that last year, the TATA Crucible campus quiz was brought to the UK. Already well established in India and Singapore, the purpose of the quiz is to bring together the sharpest student minds from UK universities.

Following its success, the quiz will be running for the second time in the UK on November 22nd at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Any pair of students from a UK university can compete as a team with free entry and transport options available for those outside London (see website for details).

Prizes include:

  • Cash prizes £7,500
  • Other exciting prizes (such as mp3 players, camcorders and cameras)
  • Internships Opportunities with Tata Companies (e.g. Corus)
  • A place in the World Finals in India

As a TATA company, Corus will be on your campus at careers fairs throughout the autumn term if you want to find out more about the quiz or get an update on our latest vacancies!

Straight talking and good advice from Corus

How many times have you said or heard the phrase "economic climate" recently?  Personally, we've never uttered the phrase so many times and we went past the stage of hating the combination of those two words a long time ago!

Corus is not alone in suffering the current downturn, but we felt it was important to give you an update in an attempt to be open and honest with you.  This is the deepest recession to hit the manufacturing sector in living memory and it has forced us to question everything we do at Corus, including whether or not to go ahead with the employment of new graduates and students during a period of restructuring within the company.

The answer to this is not simple – whilst we pride ourselves in offering excellent development opportunities, we cannot commit to a set number of vacancies on our graduate or placement schemes at this stage. However, it is likely that some will become available throughout the course of the year (particularly engineering ones!) so it is still beneficial to register your interest in a position – after all it only takes a minute!

In the meantime, we have been working hard to provide more relevant careers information on our website for you from an employer's perspective at www.corusgroupcareers.com.  The new "graduating in a recession" section provides information & advice on topics such as:

  • Applying for jobs
  • Continuing with further education
  • Voluntary or paid work experience
  • Setting up your own business
  • Working abroad and gap years
  • Unemployment

...so we hope you find this useful!
