Responsibilites
Responsibilities are working as a technical liaison between the Cummins field service organization and the Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Manufacturing organizations in Darlington, UK and Columbus, Indiana, US to identify, define, and prioritize Midrange and Heavy Duty diesel engine product problems and implement solutions. Duties include:
- Provide current engine product technical support. This includes supporting Warranty, answering telephone calls from Distributor Field Service Engineers (DFSE), and answering electronic mail memos and Product Incident Reports (PIR) from field service personnel.
- Conduct failure analysis to assist Field Service and Warranty with warrantable repair decisions and to help identify emerging issues.
- Investigate product issues and document results in the Rapid Problem Solving (RPS) database as a Problem Definition. Includes on-site field investigation (‘Scene of the Crime’) to collect factual data to define the problem.
- Actively participate on cross-functional problem solving teams (i.e. RPS teams, Six Sigma teams).
- Provide Service Engineering input during Quality activities (i.e. Design Reviews, FMEAs, FTAs, etc.) to assess the Service impact of product changes and issues.
- Communicate information on product improvements/fixes to the field via Publication topics/releases, Product Improvement Technical Summary updates, DFSE conference calls.
- Meet with customers/field service personnel to investigate problems, discuss solutions, and conduct training.
- Identify Cost of Coverage reduction possibilities within the repair process using Six Sigma methods

- IMechE mentor provided for those wishing to obtain full professional status.
The Company also has a Monitored Professional Development Scheme which is accredited by the IMechE and IET. Those wishing to obtain full professional status with either institution will be supported with an individual mentor.
Skills & Experience Required
- BEng or MEng degree
- Knowledge of engines
- Project Management skills
- Design engineering knowledge
- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Data analysis
- Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint experience
