Tate & Lyle has been refining sugar continuously at its London based refinery since 1878. 130 years later it’s still going strong and today employs around 1000 people, including contractors. Only last year, Tate & Lyle became the largest ever UK food and drink brand to switch to Fairtrade (starting with its granulated white sugar) and a project is currently underway to slash the refinery’s carbon footprint by over 25%, thanks to pioneering green technology developed by Tate & Lyle’s research and technology teams. Tate & Lyle is also a major contributor to the local community: not just through financial contributions but through a well-established program of mentoring and other support.
