HMGCC

HMGCC produces leading-edge communications equipment to support Her Majesty's Government's interests at home and abroad. We design, develop, manufacture and support unique practical solutions to the ever changing challenges our customers face.
Our business success relies on our great people and we offer development opportunities for everyone at all levels. This together with our excellent working conditions makes HMGCC a very special place to work.
Lab Profiles for the Web
The software teams at HMGCC deliver a wide range of products, from enterprise-class server systems to custom desktop applications.
The teams work in the following laboratories:
Telecoms Infrastructure

Providing secure infrastructure for fixed-line and mobile telephones and other communication devices. We work with providers at home and overseas to evaluate new products and technologies. We not only develop new products that are able to work with existing infrastructure (PSTN, GPRS), but also research next-generation technologies like VoIP, 3G and beyond.
Messaging & Data Infrastructure
Providing enterprise-class messaging and data processing systems that have high bandwidth and fault tolerance requirements. These products are business-critical, and as such need to be scalable and robust.
Secure Desktop Messaging
The development of user-friendly applications that enable our clients to communicate securely. This includes the development of secure applications that are able to sit on 3rd party, commercially available operating systems, such as Windows Vista.
Applied Information Security
This area delivers 'Security Science’' i.e. tools and guidance aimed at stopping the security of our products being weakened by vulnerabilities that are introduced by design decisions or sub-standard coding.
Platform Security
Provides practical guidance and tools to help defend our products (and the platforms they operate on) from attackers. To do this we have to thoroughly understand the current threat from malware and how an operating system can become vulnerable to attack.
Product Evaluation, Adoption & Deployment
As the 'hub' of the division, this lab delivers the products to our clients. Product evaluation and adoption are just part of the handover process for developments. In-service support is also handled by this team, making sure the products remain secure and meet our high availability requirements throughout their lifetimes.
