SELEX Galileo
Lisa McNeil - Mechanical Engineering Graduate
Studied: Mechanical Engineering with Materials MEng (Hons)
University: Aberdeen
Based: Capability Green, Luton
I am situated at the Capability Green Site in Luton and part of the Mechanical Design Team. The site has a very open and friendly environment and the Mechanical Design Team is no different, it is quite a small team within the site so everyone is very friendly and willing to go out of the their way to help, which made settling into the Company very easy when I started.
Since starting at SELEX Galileo I have been part of many projects and every day has been a learning experience. Being exposed to different projects has helped me gain more of an understanding of the processes used in the Company and in the Mechanical Design Office. Recently I have been given my own project to manage; it’s an investigation which I will see through from start to finish. In doing so I get the opportunity to conduct lab trials on my ideas and if successful a final design will be proposed and manufactured for Integration Trials. I have also had the opportunity to work towards my Chartership with the IMechE. The Mechanical team are supporting me through this and have provided me with a mentor for the programme.
In addition to the Graduate Programme and my day job I have also become a Science and Engineering Ambassador, this has been very rewarding. I had the chance to mentor a group of students at a local sixth form college through a project as part of the Engineering Education Scheme and by completing this they have gained their Gold Crest Award.
