What does your current role involve?
I’m part of a Construction team which focuses on health and safety, quality, scheduling, problem solving and liaison with many different parties. I work closely with the contractor, subcontractors and a large multi-discipline project team, and I’m constantly learning – not just about construction.
What projects have you been involved in?
- £125m West East Link Main – construction of a modern aqueduct!
- Large Diameter Trunk Mains (Vyrnwy and Dee) cleaning – maintaining our Victorian legacy!
What other activities have you been involved in?
- Helping organise a Chartership Workshop for the Developing Engineers Forum - for all keen engineers.
- Organising a forum for our Civil Engineering graduates
- Presenting on UU’s projects in-house and to CIWEM=
- Voluntary activities in schools – encouraging people to take up engineering
- Helping organise WaterAid fundraisers
- Representing UU at the national Big Bang Event – science, engineering and technology fair

Why did you choose to work for United Utilities Engineering?
I wanted to work in the water industry as this is what interests me based on university study and work experience. The company offers experience in a variety of areas, and the engineering department has a range of disciplines and a wealth of knowledge. It is also a job that has great impact on and benefit for the public.
