Ref: 092053
Location: Hengelo, Netherlands
Duration: minimum 3 months
Start Date: As soon as possible
Active in the sectors Aerospace, Defence and Security, Thales Netherland, with 2,000 employees, is a top-provider of hightech jobs. Striving to constantly innovate products and take swift advantage of the latest technological opportunities are the driving forces behind our actions.
Thales Netherlands (TNL) designs and produces Radar Systems. The department Technical Unit Radio Frequency (TU-RF) within TNL is responsible for specification and design of present and future Radar Transmitters, Receivers, T/R-Modules, as well as innovative technologies in these areas.
In the past, radar sensors consisted of only one receiver/transmitter/antenna. However, a trend in the Radar sensors is to move to phased array systems, where a large number of receivers/transmitters/antennae is used. Given the high number of elements, integration level and cost per channel in a radar receiver, are very important. As a consequence, the assignment below has been defined.
On the consumer market many applications are, or are becoming wireless. Applications like Cellular Systems (3G, 4G), point-to-point communication (RFID, Wireless USB, DSRC), LAN (WiFi), Bluetooth, GPS etc, all use highly integrated receivers. Although these receivers are designed for their specific applications and their demands, it is interesting to investigate these receivers, since the integration level of Radar receivers is increasing too. Points of interest are packaging, filtering, LO-generation, I/O etc.
This project will consist of the following activities:
- Market survey of commercial available integrated receivers
- (Topology) analysis
- Design of test board / application
- Evaluation of integrated receiver
- Writing detailed report
Profile of candidates
- Bachelor/thesis
- Electrical Engineering
- Analog/RF micro electronics
- Analog electronics, telecommunication / RF
