As a Systems Engineer, you will work in a holistic, multi-disciplinary role, focusing on the bigger picture and bridging the gaps between disciplines.
As a Systems Engineer you'll look at projects from a holistic point of view. Whereas other engineers focus on specific details, you'll be concerned with the bigger picture. You'll often bridge the gap between the various disciplines (such as Software or Mechanical Design) by using your knowledge of the system to provide appropriate information to each area of engineering. As a result of this, you'll often be viewed as a multi-discipline engineer. Throughout the different stages of the lifecycle, you'll take the lead in systems integration and testing, qualification and acceptance. Electronic Systems - This sector spans the commercial and defence electronics markets with a broad portfolio of mission-critical electronic systems, including flight and engine controls; electronic warfare, and night vision systems; surveillance and reconnaissance sensors; secure networked communications equipment; geospatial imagery intelligence products and systems; mission management; and power-and energy-management systems. Maritime Services – Fleet Services (Portsmouth Naval Base): From Aircraft Carriers to Offshore Patrol Vessels our work is all about delivering warship availability and capability to the Royal Navy or our customers further afield. We provide maintenance, repair and upgrade services for some of the most complex and capable warships in the world. Your responsibilities as a Systems Engineer will include requirements analysis, systems integration, testing, qualification and acceptance in order to ensure we deliver highly successful products and services first time. Preferred degree(s) include; relevant degree subject/ modules.
Maritime Services – Products & Training Services: We work on a wide range of Radar and Torpedo products, where it will be possible to gain experience of the technologies and techniques used in the design of Radars and fully autonomous fire and forget weapon systems. This is a hands-on role working with a wide variety of design and simulation tools. Activities will include requirements analysis, systems design, fault diagnosis, assessment of new technologies/techniques, performance studies, data analysis, and the preparation of technical reports. Preferred degree(s) include; Engineering, Scientific Computing or Numerate discipline alongside also some programming experience.
Submarines - As part of our team, you'll spend your time analysing and understanding customer requirements as well as the characteristics and behaviours of the various sub-systems within the submarines. Which submarines? Right now, we’re the prime contractor for the Astute Class submarine programme – one of the most exciting engineering projects in the world today. Military Air & Information - Defence Information is a “line of business” within BAE Systems Military Air and Information, though our products (both goods and services) are not specific to the Air Sector. We combine the latest technologies with our own domain knowledge and intellectual property and deliver them through a range of innovative services and products which help the customer gain information superiority. Our products are targeted to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving modern and future markets in defence, security, and complex mission critical decision-making systems. Products and services range from battlefield communication systems and autonomous vehicles to general IT and logistic support, including consultancy across BAE Systems. We are looking for a candidate with strong general systems engineering skills and who has a desire to gain further engineering skills. Naval Ships - Join us and you’ll have the opportunity to work for a business which is involved with some of the largest engineering projects in the UK. We have teams working on the Royal Navy’s two new Aircraft Carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, which will be the backbone of the UK fleet for decades to come. We have also recently delivered the advanced Type 45 destroyers and our work is already underway on the Type 26 Global Combat Ship. You could play a vital role in ensuring that these huge projects which attract wide scale media attention are successfully promoted and celebrated across the country thus developing and strengthening the reputation of our business and brand. Likewise, you could be pivotal in ensuring that a 6,000 strong workforce get timely, accurate and meaningful communications from the business when it matters. Available in Electronic Systems - Rochester, Naval Ships - Glasgow, Submarines - Weymouth/ Frimley, Maritime Services - Cowes/ Portsmouth (Broad Oak) and Military Air & information - Samlesbury/ Warton, this is a 12 week internship, certified by EAL (the specialist, employer-recognised awarding organisation for the engineering, manufacturing, building services and related sectors), which will give you the chance to put theory into practice, learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from real world experience. During the internship you’ll also receive a salary of £16,800 per annum pro-rata.
