I graduated with a MEng (Hons) in Civil & Structural Engineering from Bradford University in 2012. My aim was to pursue a career where my work would be varied and challenging with great future career prospects whilst having opportunity to work around the world. Doosan Babcock offered exactly that and exceeded my expectations as they also put strong priority on training and developing people whilst emphasising ‘Safety First’ culture.
The award winning Doosan Babcock Graduate Scheme is a structured development plan tailored specifically to each individual’s personal career aspirations. It consists of a number of placements within various departments in the company to ensure a varied exposure is provided and relevant professional technical knowledge is exercised. This includes working not only in the office but also on different sites as well as overseas.
Since I joined the company, I have had the opportunity to work on major UK projects like Sellafield and Drax, had the chance to undertake site work overseas in countries like France and Brazil, as well as doing design work on power plants in Canada and Hong Kong to name a few. I have gained a very high quality experience which contributes greatly towards my IStructE chartership.
Doosan Babcock is keen to give you responsibility and ownership not only of your work but also your personal professional development. As part of the graduate scheme, we are required to attend Power Plant Engineering course at Strathclyde University after which we acquire a Post Graduate Certificate. In addition, it also involves attending SMTD (Supervisory Management and Training Development) course where I will be awarded with a recognised management qualification.
My time with the company has been very enjoyable so far. Not only have I been challenged and given responsibility I have also experienced environment which is friendly, supportive and encouraging, helping unlock my full potential.
