Physics Teacher Training Scholarships

To reward the very best graduates entering physics teacher training in September 2015, we are offering 150 prestigious Teacher Training Scholarships to outstanding individuals.

Each of our 150 scholarships provides £25,000 tax-free funding and a package of exclusive support including:

  • IOP membership
  • Early career mentoring from experienced physics teachers through our Stimulating Physics Network programme
  • Celebration events at the beginning and end of your teacher training
  • Educational trips exclusively for scholars to science-related venues across the country
  • Masterclasses to introduce you to physics teaching beyond the curriculum.

Scholarships are available to graduates with at least a 2.1 degree in physics or a related subject such as engineering or mathematics. They will be awarded to the very best individuals who impress us with their academic record, physics subject knowledge and commitment to teaching.

This is an exclusive package of support which you will not receive through any other funding source for physics teacher training.

Application process

Before applying for a scholarship, please read our eligibility criteria thoroughly.

If you meet our eligibility criteria, you can proceed to complete the online application form at www.iop.org/scholarships.

If your online application is successful you will be invited to attend an assessment day in London. At the assessment day you will sit a written test to assess your subject knowledge, and take part in a group discussion and panel interview to assess your communication skills.

We will notify you shortly after the assessment day of the outcome of your assessment.
