R&W is a rapidly expanding civil engineering and traffic management contractor operating across the South of England. In the last three years our turnover has increased from £15m to over £30m. To continue on this upward trajectory, we need to replace paper-based systems on remote construction sites with the latest electronic solutions. We are seeking a highly-motivated and talented graduate to join our team and drive forward cutting-edge, mobile data capture and reporting solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and manage a project with tangible and long-lasting benefits.

What we are Looking For

The successful candidate must be ambitious, have a passion for technology, thrive on a challenge and have suitable systems knowledge and experience. They will join our vibrant and growing IT team, based at our head office in Southampton.

The Role

The first phase of the project will involve gathering requirements for a mobile solution that will transform a myriad of paper-based systems into a slick, real time, automated operation. This is a pioneering project and the first time a SME has developed mobile convergence for operations in numerous remote temporary locations. The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of a tablet-based solution; working alongside key internal stakeholders and third party software vendors. They will receive support, assistance and guidance from experts and researchers. The role will also include user training, technical support and development of ongoing iterative enhancements that are all vital in helping the business continue on its exciting journey.

Person Specification

Knowledge (including experience & qualifications)

Essential:

  • Bachelors first degree (minimum 2:1) or equivalent in a relevant IT discipline, such as Software or Systems Engineering.
  • Project management & planning experience.

Desirable:

  • Mobile application development and communications experience.
  • Development of an Enterprise Architecture.

Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Proficient at requirements gathering and process mapping.
  • Capable of breaking down complex problems and devising practical solutions.
  • Experienced in reporting up and managing expectations closely.
  • Technical Skills in at least one of: Java, C++, Python.

Desirable:

  • Technical skills in Java Script, HTML5, VB.Net, SQL, VBS, VBA.
