AECOM’s Power and Energy Business is focused on providing engineering services for the development and deployment of energy infrastructure projects across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa. Our sectors of focus encompass nuclear power, fossil fired power plant, wind and hydro power, energy estates and transmission and distribution systems.

The Process Mechanical team within our Thermal Power business concentrates on the development, design, and maintenance and project management of processes that generate power through gas and steam thermodynamic cycles and that use energy in the manufacture of products through operations affecting the physical and chemical properties of materials.

Many of our engineers are chartered and have a proven track record of providing high quality design and consultancy services. We encourage membership and networking activities in industry bodies including the IChemE and IMechE sector specific bodies as part of our team’s personal development.

The successful candidate will join the Thermal Power team and be involved in AECOM project work including

  • system design and specification for power, energy and process applications
  • risk identification, management and problem solving
  • multi-disciplinary team working
  • development of AECOM technical processes
  • delivery of assigned package of work to cost, quality and timescale requirements

Job Responsibilities

As a Graduate Engineer within our Thermal Power team you can expect to be involved in a wide range of activities including:

  • Process Plant Design
  • Options selection & evaluation
  • Value Engineering
  • Concept design
  • Equipment design & specification
  • Control system specification
  • CDM Assessment
  • Design Substantiation
  • Plant optimisation
  • Plant modifications

Our graduate engineers may also be involved in supporting other internal AECOM business units. You will typically be involved in assisting in the development of our projects through the different design and development stages, attending meetings and workshops with stakeholders including design professionals, owners and operators.

As our graduates develop they are expected to take on more responsibility in managing projects which in turn leads to more challenges and rewarding career progression.


The following attributes and requirements are anticipated in the graduates we wish to recruit:-

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc/ BEng or MSc/ MEng in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent
  • A 2:2 (or equivalent) classification or above
  • Eligible to achieve UK security clearance to handle official sensitive classified documents
  • Hold a valid full driving licence for the UK and a willingness to travel.
  • Have no travel/Visa restriction for technical visits to Europe, Middle East, India and Africa as well as the USA
  • Fluent in English
