Making a fairer comparison

By Emma Acum, Gradcracker web team.
Part of my role in the web team is to analyse statistics from Gradcracker and other websites. When comparing websites, the tendency is always to head straight for the visitor numbers, but I know that visitor behaviour is a much more relevant consideration.
For this reason, I use Alexa and I recommend that if you are an employer researching graduate media, you take a look at the website. Here you will find comparative measurement of factors such as 'time spent on site', 'page views per user' and, 'bounce rates'.
Alexa is an information resource you can easily access to read beneath visitor statistics. Gradcracker, as a niche audience site marketed only to engineering students, has, naturally, a smaller number of visitors than Milkround and Prospects - but why not see how we compare on visitor behaviour?
Take a look at alexa.com. Use the site info tab to 'search' for a graduate site, 'get details' and then use the compare feature to enter up to four others. The five sites selected can then be compared with each other.
You will see that Gradcracker visitors spend considerably more time exploring the site and view significantly more individual pages.
