Why should I research?

Doing your research shows that you’re interested in, and serious about, working for the company you are applying to.

It will allow you to show throughout the application process that you’re a good fit for the company and suitable for the role. You’ll impress recruiters with your knowledge and demonstrate that you’re diligent, hardworking and a self learner. These are all qualities that employers really value and look out for.

What should I research?

Delve deeper into areas that particularly interest you.

One of the first things to research is the company itself. You need to have a general knowledge of the company you’re applying to – what they do and how they operate – but also specific knowledge too.

Find out what their values are and take some time to consider how you align with these values. Have a look at some of their most recent projects, and then delve a bit deeper into the ones that particularly interest you.

If you can demonstrate that you’ve gone the extra mile to find out about the company and thought about why you’d like to work there, you’re off to a good start.

But researching the specific role you are applying for is equally important. Make sure you meet the requirements and know what the role will involve, so that you can talk about what makes you the best person for the job.
