We're primarily a distributor of components of renewable energy systems - from solar panels to batteries and heat pumps.
Midsummer is a fast-growing company selling a range of renewable energy products, primarily to installation companies, from our offices in Cambridge, Glasgow and Dublin. We sell solar PV systems, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps and a variety of other associated products, and were recognised as the UK's best renewables distributor for 2020 and 2022.
Founded in 2005, we’re now on our 7th warehouse, process around 50,000 orders a year and have a team of over 110 people across our Cambridge, Glasgow and Dublin locations.
In addition to our growing gang of friendly staff and a lean, efficient operation, we have a suite of web tools that make design and ordering extremely easy, for both solar projects and heat pump installs. Easy PV and Heatpunk are our cutting edge software offerings!
As an organisation, we have a strong environmental ethos and a passion for promoting the uptake of renewables, and our team share a belief in an open and honest approach to business.
The purpose of the graduate scheme is to give you wide ranging experience of all aspects of operating a small company. You will spend time in various departments of the business, possibly some of the following:
Solar Sales Team
Working with the Sales and Administrative teams, you will deal direct with customer enquires and orders. As well as speaking to customers on the phone, or answering their emails, you will be processing online orders and helping with customer payments and stock or design queries. You will also liaise with the operations team while handling customer enquiries about deliveries and logistics, and spend sometime in one of our warehouses.
Renewable Heat Team
We launched our renewable heat division in 2021, so it's still the newest part of Midsummer, and one with enormous growth potential as the UK begins to decarbonise its heating. A rotation in the heat team offers the opportunity to learn the technical ins and outs of heat pumps, and the associated system parts, as well as the considerations that go into a proper system design for retrofit and new build applications. You'll handle customer enquiries, get hands-on with the hardware, and take part in developing, using and promoting our unique heat pump sizing software, Heatpunk.
Marketing and Communications
Any successful company needs a great marketing team and ours is the best. You may be plunged straight into the planning and logistics of setting up our stand for a trade show, or get creative and help to design materials for a new product launch, or refresh those literary skills by writing an article for our blog.
Software Sales
As part of the Software Sales team, you'll play a key role in promoting and supporting customers to use and get the most out of our innovative software tools, Easy PV and Heatpunk. You may also provide technical support and guidance to users, resolve any issues they encounter, and ensure that their experience with our software is smooth and efficient.
As well as the above, the scheme will expose you to business functions that may include the following:
There may be the opportunity to spend a month or two at our Glasgow offices during the year!
As a hands-on introduction to all aspects of running a small company, our graduate scheme will equip you with skills and experience that would transfer to any small but growing firm, and an insight into a career in the renewables industry.
Midsummer Energy is committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do – from how we support our customers to how we build our workforce. We actively celebrate colleagues’ different abilities, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith, and gender. Everyone is welcome and supported in their development at all stages in their journey with us.
Our graduate scheme offers a fantastic opportunity to develop commercial experience in a friendly and rapidly-growing company. You will gain experience in all aspects of our business, from sales processing to operations and accounts, but with a particular focus on technical activities in our operations, software and technical sales divisions.
The post is initially for a year, with the possibility of moving on to a permanent position in the company afterwards. We are flexible about start dates - we would consider applicants who can start now as well as those who graduate this summer.
"The Midsummer grad scheme has been the perfect next step for me. I loved the idea of going into the solar industry, but had no idea where to start. I’ve been able to gain experience across all departments. With such a supportive team and relaxed environment I really can’t recommend Midsummer enough." Emma - Glasgow Operations Manager (Graduate Trainee 2021-2022)
You’ll gain hands-on experience in the sort of day-to-day decision-making that happens at a growing company in a rapidly-changing industry. You'll enjoy exposure to real business problem-solving in a variety of contexts, and put your talents to use in a dynamic team environment.
The programme offers a salary of £29,000 and the possibility of a long-term position for the right candidate, as well as the chance to develop contacts in a growing industry. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere in the office, and a real buzz when things get busy.
