Encouraging Innovation: Briggs of Burton

At Briggs the emphasis is on the design and engineering of hygienic processes across our core sectors, in- cluding Brewing, Distilling, Food, Health and Beauty and Pharma. These processes typically operate on a batch basis where safety, energy efficiency and cleanliness is critical.

The role will also be to assist the Company and the Sales and Pre-Engineering Department specifically, to maintain our core values, “be safe, be open and honest, be flexible, and deliver what we promise”, meet annual performance requirements, and to contribute to the success of the Company as a whole.

You will be required to adhere to the Terms and Conditions of Employment and Company Rules at all times.

Main tasks & responsibilities

  • Liaise and visit Clients (UK and worldwide) to discuss & review scope, develop engineering designs and represent Briggs Group capabilities.
  • Develop a technical understanding of Client project requirements.
  • Process Engineering typically involves (dependent on project scope) –
  • Block PFDs
    • Showing overall high level process in simplistic form
  • PFDs – Process Flow Diagrams
    • Showing the main process flows and processes required in simplified flow charts, with capacity, flow etc.
  • P&IDs – Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
    • Showing in schematic detail plant, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, instruments and pipework, with tag numbers, sizes and duties.
  • Utilisation Charts.
    • Showing plant utilisation over a number of batches (e.g. brews) / extended time, often with utility loads.
  • Mass Balances.
    • Calculating and defining material / product flows in, between and out of process operations.
  • Heat Transfer Design/Specification.
    • Thermal design calculations to size heat exchangers, and produce Heat Exchanger Data- sheets/Specifications.
  • Fluid Flow Design/Specification.
    • Pressure drop calculations to size pumps, and produce Pump Data-sheets/Specifications.
  • Plant Design/Specification.
    • Design, sizing and specification of tanks and process equipment such as dryers, evaporators, filters, etc.
  • 3D Model Review.
    Review 3D models of plant and pipework produced by draughtsmen/project engineers to ensure the plant layout suits the process objectives.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers as appropriate.
  • Support in and prepare cost estimates for EPC, EPCM and FEED CAPEX consultancy tenders.
  • Develop and prepare technical / commercial tenders.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the Client.
  • Prepare technical and commercial handover to the project teams. Desired Knowledge &

Experience Education:

  • Chemical or Process engineering degree.
