Structural Engineering here covers a wide range of complex systems and intricate infrastructure. Through a mix of placements over the course of two to four years, you’ll experience some extraordinary projects. You’ll also work with some technically brilliant people and develop your expertise.
Places on our Structural Engineering graduate programme for Autumn 2018 are available within our Marine (Rosyth) sector. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.
There are so many exciting experiences to be had here. You might find yourself working on submarine designs, rail network projects or even nuclear new-build programmes. Whatever it is, you’ll demonstrate your technical flair – whether you’re producing structural designs, analysing existing systems or engaging key stakeholders.
You could work in structural design: producing drawings and working with manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors right through to manufacture, installation and decommissioning. Equally, you could work on analysis and problem solving for existing equipment or systems. There will be plenty of onsite work (e.g. implementing designs, finding solutions to installation issues, liaising with designers and office-based engineers). You’ll also get involved in project management too: engaging with stakeholders, planning delivery and ensuring projects run to budget and programme.
You’ll get a proper overview of what we do, which will help you figure out what you love and what you’re good at. We’ll also support you every step of the way on your path to becoming an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer – with a competitive starting salary of £28k-£30k as you’re doing it.* And after the programme, you’ll be in pole position for lots of roles throughout Babcock.
A 2:2 BEng (Hons) degree in Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering is vital. And because the programme is accredited by the IStructE, your degree will need to be accredited by them too. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
*Depending on location, role and qualifications.
