Save to shortlist Saved to shortlist Apply now

Job description

Naval architecture comes in one size: big. And big means rewarding. You could be tackling some of the most complex engineering challenges today, from designing advanced fast patrol vessels to getting involved in technical ship science. Over the course of two years, you’ll experience the full breadth and complexity of our work through a number of placements.

Where you can join us

Places on our Naval Architecture programme for Autumn 2020 are available in our Marine sector. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

Babcock International Group - Trusted to Deliver

A brief introduction to the breadth and scope of our expertise.

What you'll be doing

The activities in this area are many and varied. You might be helping us design a variety of cutting-edge floating vessels and structures, or investigating the finer points of resistance, propulsion and access. What’s certain is that you’ll work with – and learn from – some of the most respected naval architects in the world.

You’ll learn how to analyse and design various aspects of floating vessels and structures (including hull form, arrangement, stability, structures, resistance, propulsion and access). In the process you’ll make a real contribution to projects too. Previous graduates here have worked on everything from naval ships and submarines to small boats and offshore platforms. They have helped us develop unmanned surface vessel support solutions and even been involved in next generation submarine pre-concept engineering.

What you'll get out of it

The broad overview you get will be the basis for your long-term career. It’ll give you the experience and insight you need to find what you love and pursue it. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a competitive starting salary of £29k - £31k and our full support as you work towards becoming an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.

What you'll need

The entrance degree level required varies dependent on the business location. A minimum of a 2:2 BEng (Hons) degree that is accredited by RINA/IMarEST is desirable. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).

COVID-19 update - We are still recruiting for a number of exciting graduate opportunities here at Babcock for our 2020 intake.
