Graduate Process Safety Consultant

Gexcon is a world-leading company in the field of safety and risk management and advanced dispersion, explosion and fire modelling. We are looking for graduates with a degree or equivalent in a STEM subject to join our team based in Warrington.

The Role

The role involves working alongside a senior team member conducting risk analysis and preparing various safety management documents to support our clients in achieving compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and good practice to minimise the risks associated with their operations.

You’ll be trained in providing support and assistance across a range of projects and technical areas. You will provide consultancy advice to our clients, contributing towards the success of the team through the effective delivery of projects and development of key client relationships.

Gexcon’s work generally falls into the following key services;

  • Regulatory Compliance (DSEAR / ATEX, COMAH)
  • Workshop facilitation including HAZID and HAZOP, and Barrier analysis (BowTie / LOPA / SIL)
  • Consequence modelling including the use of empirical tools (Shell FRED / Gexcon EFFECTS) and 3D modelling using Computational Fluid Dynamics (FLACS-CFD)
  • Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA)

The role will involve travelling to client meetings and site visits within the UK as well as opportunities for travel further afield, and may also travel to Gexcon international offices for short or long intervals as required.

You will be accompanied by other graduates on the same cohort and will benefit from the experience gained by the graduates of previous cohorts, many of whom have now progressed into senior roles after starting on the same journey with Gexcon as yourself.

Who we’re looking for:

To be considered for our graduate programme you will need to have or be on course for achieving a 2:1 or above in a relevant degree (or equivalent) in one of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM subject.

Key elements of a consulting role are to learn how to plan and manage workload across multiple projects and ensure work is completed on budget, to the client’s satisfaction. Strong initiative and excellent communication skills, particularly a very high level of written English, are therefore essential.

As a consultant you will aim to develop lasting relationships with clients, therefore you should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with both colleagues and clients.

A full UK driving license is essential as travel throughout the UK is required. Applicants must have permit to work in the UK.

What happens next?

If your CV meets our criteria you will be invited to an assessment day held in April 2025 at the Gexcon office in Birchwood, where you will have an opportunity to meet the team who you could be working with.

This selection process will be the opportunity for you to showcase your relevant skills and suitability for the role, but also to ask any questions on what to expect in the role day to day.

It is expected that your employment will commence September 2025. An earlier start date may be arranged, this can be discussed during the interview stage.
