We need individuals who want to develop their skills across the whole digital information systems and information technology enterprise as well as building a specialism in one of our delivery and operational pillars.

What is the opportunity?

This four-year degree programme is a fantastic opportunity for you to join a growing digital systems team and gain hands on experience within the Information Technology and Information Systems sector with a major defence contractor. The IM Academy will give you experience of projects developing or enhancing business solutions as well an understanding of operational and service delivery.

Projects at MBDA are typically a mix of ‘waterfall' and ‘agile' methodologies meaning you'll have the opportunity to compare and contrast different styles of solution development and begin to learn how to select the best approach to meet the requirements.

Typically you will be involved with and contribute to Solution analysis and requirements elicitation; Systems and Solution Design including liasing with technology and service providers; Project/Task Management including Release and Test Management.

Our operational teams cover everything from user engagement through to cyber security threat analysis and prevention. We use ITIL standards for our operational management and comply with standards such as the national government Cyber Security Essentials Plus scheme, and you will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of and begin to apply those.

In this area you would be involved in Operations and Service Deliver for the enterprise server infrastructure and desktop ecosystem including performance monitoring and capacity management. You will also be involved in monitoring of cyber security tools and notifications; Conducting Cybersecurity and Information Security investigation and incident response.

Programme Structure

You will study for a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions (Cyber Security Specialist pathway) from either MK:U Cranfield University, or Manchester Metropolitan University – depending on whether your role is based in our Stevenage or Bolton location. Wherever you are based, your qualification is fully funded by MBDA. From day one of joining, you'll attend uni 1 day per week of your working week and study will be a blend of virtual and face to face.

During your first year, the IM Academy approach will offer you experience of Cyber Security; Networking and Digital Infrastructure; Digital solutions and Delivery Management.

Working together using the knowledge gained in the first year we will chose a specialist path for you from those subject areas which you will begin to explore in years two and three along with gaining wider experience across the company of how are services and solutions are used. Then in year four you will concentrate on the specialism through the course modules and the project chosen as part of your final assessment working with the relevant IM team. 

Entry Criteria

This role has specific qualification level and subject criteria - please make sure you carefully check your eligibility against this criteria as we cannot consider applications from anyone that does not meet the following requirements:

5 x GCSE qualifications at Grade 9 - 4 to include Maths, English and a Science or Technology subject

In addition to:

120 UCAS points through A level qualifications to include Maths at minimum grade C


120 UCAS points through BTEC Level 3 extended Diploma in Engineering or IT related subject (equivalent to DDM) Engineering and Science students must provide evidence of completing a Further Maths module


120 UCAS points achieved through a single subject T Level, in an Engineering or Computing subject at Merit or Distinction level
