We’re looking for a recent graduate who’s keen to develop a career in digital electronics design engineering. Working on a wide range of field-programmable gate array (FPGA) products, you’ll help shape the future of sustainable submarine power.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Life of a Rolls-Royce Employee

Rolls-Royce currently employs over 50,000 people in more than 50 countries around the world. And with our growing order book, those numbers are set to increase as well.

Can you imagine being part of the team that powers the UK’s submarines? We’ve provided power for the Royal Navy for over 60 years. And to make sure we continue, we’re leading the research and development of new technologies that will control the nuclear systems of the future.

Join our Submarines team and you won’t only be solving technical challenges across a wide range of systems and applications.

You’ll be playing an important role in creating efficient, sustainable power solutions that will keep the UK protected, today and tomorrow.

What’s more, you’ll do it in an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career

Along with a competitive salary and exceptional benefits, this permanent role enables you to learn fast and focus on developing the skills you need to become the engineering expert you aspire to be.

What you will be doing

This role sits within our safety critical FPGA development team, who work across all phases of the design lifecycle. The team uses agile scrum methods to develop high integrity solutions using the latest state-of-the-art toolsets.

With their all-round support and comprehensive training, you’ll gain the skills to develop requirements, architectures, designs and HDL code for controls functions essential for the protection and monitoring of nuclear propulsion plant. Day to day, your work will include:

  • defining requirements
  • creating architectural designs
  • writing VHDL and Verilog HDL code
  • simulating designs at unit, integration and system level
  • undertaking synthesis, place & route and static timing analysis
  • developing scripts for process automation.

Who we’re looking for

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • have a degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or another similar discipline
  • have some knowledge of digital electronics design and programmable hardware
  • be motivated to learn new techniques and tools
  • have good people and communication skills and a strong customer focus
  • be able to organise your own, as well as other people’s work

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be.

By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.

Benefits

As a graduate with us, you’ll be a full-time employee, working on real projects and making a difference from day one. That’s why we make sure you’re properly rewarded for the work you do.

  • 33 days’ annual leave including bank holidays
  • Bonus schemes
  • A choice of voluntary benefits including employee car leasing scheme, financial advice
  • Employee discounts with nationwide stores, payroll giving
