TotalSim-CFD is the general CFD consultancy division of the TotalSim Group. It retains and develops the core CFD modelling capabilities to help deliver top-level CFD consultancy and to support well-known third party clients.
TotalSim was established in 2007 with roots back to F1. Our team of CFD engineers and developers is vastly experienced in a wide range of sectors and applications: automotive, aerospace, renewables and more. We relish helping our customers solve tricky simulations, pushing the boundaries of CFD and providing accurate predictions of real world problems.
About the role
TotalSim | CFD analysis of Team GB Cyclist
TotalSim have been working with UKSport and British Cycling since 2005 providing aerodynamic and CFD consultancy.
We are currently recruiting an undergraduate to join us for a year-long placement from Summer 2025. As part of our team, you’ll work within our engineering team to solve a wide range of real-world problems and work with variety of customers. An excellent opportunity to substantiate and significantly expand upon CFD knowledge learnt in University courses.
Key responsibilities:
Working as part of our CFD engineering team in consultancy and support.
Working in a variety of sectors - cycling, architectural flows, ventilation, etc.
Involvement in the full CFD process: preparing CAD, setting up and analysing solutions, and post-processing.
Using OpenFOAM and other tools to solve a wide variety of real-world problems.
What we’re looking for:
An engineering student with a keen interest in CFD.
Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills.
An appetite for problem-solving.
Currently studying at a top university with a relevant degree e.g. Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or General Engineering.
Some experience with CFD software such as OpenFOAM/StarCCM+ or ANSYS Fluent preferable but not essential.
Experience with C++ or Python is advantageous.

The role will be office-based with the successful candidate integrated into the team.
Location: Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub in Northamptonshire – home to TotalSim Group’s two wind tunnels, cycling performance lab and skinsuit development team.
