Our focus is developing ultra-efficient hydrogen combustion engines with key components manufactured from ceramics, able to withstand fuel combustion temperatures, eliminating the need for cooling systems and doubling efficiencies. Operating on hydrogen and biofuels can revolutionise some of the most challenging industries to decarbonise.

CARNOT

Since 2019, we have won 7 competitive grant projects, generated £8M+ worth of funds, filed 2 patent applications, formed partnerships with industry and produced a prototype.

Next for CARNOT is to grow the business and technical team, produce the world’s most efficient engine capable of 55% thermal efficiency, execute trials with our development partners, and seek commercial/ development opportunities with end-users.

Opportunity 

We are seeking a Systems and Control Engineering intern to join our core group of pioneers. You will join the Test and Development team at CARNOT and will be working towards managing the data acquisition and data post processing alongside creating a robust and effective control strategy to meet testing requirements.

You will have a distinguished academic record and relevant programming/control systems experience at university level. You will possess a solid foundation of knowledge in physics and applied mathematics and be able to work – as needed – from fundamental principles. You will have an insatiable appetite to learn and a willingness to support in all areas of the business.

Duties

  • Designing, developing and implementation of automated systems.
  • Managing existing systems and troubleshooting errors.
  • Writing and developing code to create software.
  • Analysing and compiling generated data from testing programme.
  • Compiling and writing scripts to support the simulations team.

Requirements

  • Working towards a degree in Engineering or another STEM course.
  • Experience writing code in python.
  • Insatiable appetite to learn.
  • Curiosity and willingness to support in areas outside of their role.
  • Willingness to go beyond the call of duty to deliver.

  • Can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills is essential.
  • Experienced in complex decision making and strategic thinking when faced with imperfect data and challenging timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster strong cross-departmental relationships.
  • Highly motivated, methodical problem solver with a demonstrable level of industrial experience in the simulation and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good verbal/communication/influencing skills.
  • The ability to provide sound and innovative solutions.
  • To work with other parts of the organisation from business development to fundraising to achieve business objectives.
