Data Science, Software, Cyber Security, Analytics.

MI5 and MI6 are part of the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats at home, overseas and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. On our Technology Graduate Development Programme, you’ll work across our vital missions, delivering impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.

MI5 Security Services
We've got one mission, to keep everyone in the UK and overseas safe.

Working in supportive, welcoming teams, you’ll develop the skills, knowledge and experience you need to thrive as part of our technology workforce. The two-year programme consists of a combination of on-the-job and formal training. You could be working in a team to develop core applications, creating innovative solutions or helping a team to meet business needs.

Whichever team you’re assigned to, you’ll develop your skills, knowledge and experience in a warm and welcoming environment. You’ll collaborate with other technology professionals and be given early responsibility – we’ll make sure you aren’t held back from working on the bigger projects.

The Technology Graduate Development Programme begins in Autumn 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career in a unique organisation doing work that you cannot do anywhere else all for a truly rewarding purpose. Enthusiastic to learn and passionate about technology, you’ll bring a positive attitude towards personal development. You’ll need to have (or be expecting) a 2:2 or above in your STEM degree by September 2025. You’ll also need to live in, or be able to commute to, Central London.

As part of the programme, you’ll need to select a specialism from the following:

  • Business Analysis - MI5
  • Data Science & Machine Learning - MI5
  • Delivery Manager - MI5
  • User Experience (UX) Design - MI5
  • Engineering (Software & Data) - MI5
  • Engineering (Software, Data & Infrastructure) - MI6
  • Information & Cyber Security - MI5

Whichever specialism you choose, you’ll enjoy an extensive combination of on-the-job and formal training. Throughout the programme, you’ll receive ongoing support to ensure you get the most out of the scheme, including mentorship and coaching and access to staff networks. And you’ll have every opportunity to develop, whether that’s taking on team-building activities such as challenges and presentations alongside your peers, or developing your personal and leadership skills. We’ll fund further external and accredited training and qualifications to support your future career.

You’ll also receive a competitive salary of £37,446, as well as other benefits including 25 days’ annual leave, investment in your future through training and personal development, including training for relevant qualifications, and access to our on-site facilities including a gym, restaurant and coffee bars.

The recruitment and vetting process can take up to nine months to complete. So, now is the perfect time to apply if you’re currently in the final year of your studies. Should you have a disability or long-term health condition, or a neurodivergent condition, and want to discuss any reasonable adjustments we can make, simply let us know when you submit your application.

At MI5 and MI6, diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You can apply at the age of 17 years, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday.
