The railway sector has always been one of our core sectors and because of our success in building and maintaining the railway, Amey Consulting has become an industry leader in Rail Design consultancy services. With a growing team working across our 12 Rail design offices throughout the UK we are continuing to add to our already extensive and impressive list of project awards.

As an Electrification &P Electrical Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work from early design to the end result, and every project will be different from the last. You’ll feel inspired to challenge yourself, as well as your colleagues.

You’ll collaborate and engage with colleagues through a combination of home and office-based working, delivering projects throughout England and Wales, including the £2.9bn Transpennine Route and Electrification Upgrade (TRU) and the multi-billion-pound Wales and Borders Franchise Contract. The successful candidate will undertake the production of permanent way design, working as part of a dedicated track design engineering team.

We’ll also support and pay towards a relevant professional qualification.

As a Graduate, you’ll be given real responsibility from day one, gaining invaluable experience working alongside the team to deliver the following:

  • Actively contributing to site surveys
  • Collating technical information from surveys, inspections and other sources (e.g. eB)
  • Demonstrating a good understanding of the design process
  • Ability to undertake design and assessment work for electrical and lighting installations
  • Engaging in CDM/risk analyses
  • Undertaking designs to a level that complies with Network Rail, British and European Standards
  • Keeping up to date with current Network Rail, British and European Standards
  • Preparing design and assessment reports
  • Producing design drawings using CAD
  • Preparation and/or checking design calculations, contract documentation, drawing production, technical documents and project reports in accordance with the project brief and in compliance with current standards
  • Attend meetings with the client and other project related organisations
  • Maintain high technical standards, consistent with the project brief and compliance with Amey HSEA requirements

Our 2-year Graduate programme at Amey will challenge and inspire you to reach your full potential and build your career. Afterwards? Well, it’s just the start of an exciting career full of amazing opportunities with a guaranteed permanent position for you to transition into once you have finished.

Throughout your Graduate programme, you will receive first-class mentoring and a structured learning and development programme to enable your professional and personal development.

You’ll get hands-on experience while collaborating with some of the best minds in the industry. Yes, you’ll learn from them, but they expect to learn from you too.

What will you bring?

As a Graduate, other than your relevant degree, we don’t expect you to bring prior experience with you when you join us; we will give the training and support to lead you to success.

We therefore keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our programme:

  • Minimum 2:2 Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Available to join the programme in September 2023
  • A passion and desire to develop yourself.

If you possess the determination, initiative, and curiosity to become an expert in your field, or one of our future leaders, then our graduate development programme is for you.
