We are looking for suitable candidates to join our 2023 summer internship within our Transport Infrastructure business unit. This is an exciting opportunity to gain work experience with leading infrastructure services and engineering company, lasting 12weeks.
Find out what training and development opportunities Amey provides throughout the graduate programme and beyond.
Here at Amey, you’ll have the unique opportunity to deliver maintenance and renewals solutions on three iconic structures – Severn Bridge, Prince of Wales Bridge and Avonmouth Bridge. Your already acquired engineering skills will have impact, making a genuine difference to people’s lives, often in the very community where you live.
As an Undergraduate Civil or Structural Engineer, you’ll join a growing team of big thinkers who love finding solutions to difficult problems. You’ll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive and embrace new challenges, recognising your hard work and looking out for your wellbeing.
Our Summer Internship Programme starts you on a journey to develop your career in a challenging, dynamic and supportive work environment, providing a unique opportunity to be involved in a range of varied and exciting projects in various stages from inception through to construction.
We have a unique opportunity on our Specialist Bridges Inspection and Maintenance contract. No one day will be the same. You will experience being a part of the bridge inspection and maintenance team in assisting with inspection of the bridges and delivery of routine and reactive maintenance works as well as being involved in the delivery of renewals schemes.
This will involve working with design teams, the inspection and maintenance teams, sub-contractors and suppliers to deliver innovative solutions to keep the bridges in good condition and working order. You will also gain some unique experience in the day-to-day management of bridge underdeck gantries. You may even have to walk the main cable of the Severn Bridge!
Based at one of our bridge locations near Bristol, you’ll get to work with Amey colleagues and the client, National Highways, being involved in projects and maintenance solutions working across all three structures.
From day one you’ll be given real responsibility, gaining invaluable experience and exposure working alongside our industry experts across our multi-disciplinary teams.
The Highways sector has always been one of our core sectors and because of our success in building and maintaining Highways, we’re an industry leader in Highway design and maintenance services, passionate about using our skills to make a difference and continuing to win further exciting projects for you to get involved with.
As an Undergraduate, other than your current degree progress, we don’t expect you to bring prior experience of engineering or the Highways industry with you when you join us; we will give you all the skills and opportunities to start becoming a technical expert that you could hope for. However, we want you to share our passion for these and demonstrate your desire to develop yourself within this exciting area and because of the work environment you’ll also need a good head for heights!
We treat people as individuals. We want a range of abilities, from practicality and problem-solving to precision and creativity. That goes for diversity too. We want a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve and value the experiences that you bring to our business.
If you like the sound of that and you are a proactive self-starter who is ambitious, driven, personable and full of energy and enthusiasm to create opportunities and question the accepted- we could be looking for you.
We therefore keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our programme:
If you possess the determination, initiative, and curiosity to become a technical expert in your field, or one of our future leaders, then our graduate development programme could be for you.
