Software Engineering:

The QinetiQ Software discipline supports a broad range of our capabilities from designing the future secure GPS to providing cyber-security services, and is at the forefront of developing innovative software solutions to meet the demanding requirements of our customers and partner organisations. 

We are a group of professional software developers and engineers who work across the land, air and space domains of the business. We use the latest software development technologies and techniques to develop innovative software solutions. Our Software Engineering teams are looking to recruit proactive, passionate and forward thinking people who are looking to help improve today & shape tomorrow.

We are looking for candidates wanting an apprenticeship that covers the whole of the software lifecycle (requirements, design, software development, integration and test) to join our team of over 100 experts. You will develop the skills needed to contribute to the delivery of a wide range of programmes for military, Government and commercial customers to support the protection of national critical infrastructure.

What will I be doing?

  • Your role will be focused on Software Engineering in Malvern, Worcestershire.
  • You will be given 20% of your working week to cover University commitments as you work towards a degree.
  • You will undertake a variety of tasks across the whole of the software lifecycle, ensuring technical solutions meet business and customer requirements.
  • We have many interesting and sometimes cutting edge domains in which you will work alongside domain experts. 
  • You will have the opportunity to work in Hybrid manner (Office / Home working) although may be dependent on the project you are allocated too.
  • You may be asked to travel to other QinetiQ sites / Customer sites to support training, meetings or trials.

Academic requirements:

  • You will need to have obtained or be studying towards minimum of a 112 UCAS points* at A-Level (Grades BBC) OR an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM. This must include Maths and a Science related subject. 
  • You must also have at least achieved a minimum of 5 GCSES' at A* - C, 5 - 9 in Maths, IT, Science, English Language & at least one other.

Training Provider:

  • Aston University, Digital and Technology Solutions BSc Degree Apprenticeship
  • Lectures and on campus days will take place within the working week. You will need to travel to Aston, Birmingham for on-site activities.

Additional requirements:

  • Have a strong interest and/or experience within Software Engineering
  • Some knowledge of at least 1 object oriented software language
  • Any work experience within a computing industry is beneficial
  • Extra-curricular &/or hobbies in Software Engineering or Computer Science is beneficial
  • Cloud experience is beneficial
  • Please be aware that many roles within QinetiQ will be subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform for the organisation.
  • You must be prepared to go through the Government Vetting process
