What we do

QinetiQ is a company of over 6,000 people dedicated to being on the side of their customers.

Role Profile

As a Safety Engineering graduate in QinetiQ you will have the opportunity to join our highly skilled team of Safety Engineers. You will be able to contribute in supporting the work we do to ensure that any platform, equipment, or product is safe to operate so that the user knows how to operate it safely. This is not Health and Safety, but in depth analysis of how the product is designed to operate, look at what the hazards are, calculate risks and define barriers to reduce the risk of harm and damage.

The job satisfaction is in knowing that the aircraft, ship, submarine, land vehicle or weapon can operate safely because of your input. Our people make the critical difference to customers by providing unique approaches to problem solving.

Role Duties & Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Provision of verbal and written technical advice relating to the platform, equipment or product
  • Conduct in depth analysis of system design and performance with solutions to safety engineering problems
  • Support the conduct of platform or equipment trials, tests and evaluation with safety engineering input.
This will help the future of QinetiQ by:
  • Ensuring our trials are conducted in a safe manner so that we reduce the risk to life, eliminate harm to people, and prevent unintentional damage to property.
  • Providing confidence to our military forces that the equipment we have provided and tested is safe to operate in peace time and in war conditions.
  • Build a reputation worldwide that what we do is not only extremely specialised, but the best in the world.

Graduate Duties & Responsibilities

As a graduate Safety Engineer you will be expected to learn how we operate and gain systems knowledge to best place you in a Safety Engineer role. You may specialise in a particular domain such as aviation, and gain specific knowledge on tools and techniques that will facilitate the final output of the project. Working with others more experienced in the team, we will give you the opportunity to experience different types of platforms and equipment as you move from project to project. This will enable you to gain experience across the military array of weapon platforms and help us understand where your interests may lay as a specialist engineer.

For the first 2 years, you will be supported by the Early Careers Team and experienced Safety Engineers. On completion of the 2 year scheme we also offer an investment opportunity to those who may be suited to further qualifications, such as an MSc in System Safety Engineering. Other training and development opportunities will be available through your role as a safety Engineer once your 2 year scheme has been completed.
