In the Applied Science discipline, we are looking for an ambitious Graduate with a degree in Chemistry covering electrochemistry who wants a career at the forefront of Power Sources technologies, problem solving and undertaking R&D through the concept phase to product development. Joining our Haslar Power Sources team, you will develop the skills needed to contribute to the delivery of a wide range of programmes for military, government and commercial customers.

QinetiQ’s Power Sources capability includes R&D and IP generation, testing and advice. Our Haslar - Gosport site is home to battery research facility that includes a large dry-room and pilot-scale battery assembly equipment as well as an extensive range of electrochemical test equipment. We develop and test advanced battery types for demanding applications that require performance beyond what is available commercially.

Working in our team of scientists engaged in development of power sources, you will have task responsibilities and undertake work for development programmes in the laboratory as well as to assist with development of new work programmes in response to customer demands.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will be involved in:
  • Work with the technical leader, undertaking battery research programmes in the laboratory
  • Research and development requiring you to gain knowledge of electrochemical systems, materials and processes
  • Learning and applying various electrochemical techniques, software and equipment (e.g. potentiostats, impedance spectroscopy)
  • The analysis of power source issues in a variety of applications and markets and support the technical leader in devising programmes to address them
  • In the acquisition of sound knowledge of the battery industry. Market knowledge of key industries, e.g. electric vehicles, personal electronics would be beneficial.
  • You will gain familiarity with safe systems of work and Health and Safety practices in respect of battery research.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the role you MUST meet the following criteria;

  • Have attained, or are about to attain a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with electrochemistry content
  • Be willing to learn, and have demonstrated an aptitude for learning at pace
  • Have a keen interest in science and technology
  • Hold full British Citizenship.
