Applied Science:

Our Applied Science capabilities cover materials and chemistry, electromagnetics & acoustics, Human performance, as well as our Weapons and explosives materials-related activities. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a range of critical customer projects and our work encompasses world-leading research (exploring the ‘art of the possible’) to comprehensive evaluation and testing of systems and components. A key part of your work will involve working in laboratories and facilities which are often unique in the work undertaken and safe-working in these areas is paramount.

Our teams at Fort Halstead are primarily involved in the evaluation and testing of weapon systems and explosive materials in order to ensure that systems are both safe and perform to the highest levels. Our work is unusual, but, absolutely critical to saving lives and protecting our sovereign nation. You will be working with a number of science and engineering teams, all with a common interest and passion for their technical areas and in supporting our Customers. You will also be joining at an exciting time with significant investment underway in the site and facilities.

Academic requirements:

You will need to be studying towards at least a 2:2 in a degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed below:

  • Materials Science
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

We will also consider applications which have clear & relevant external experience in any of the above disciplines. You will also need to support this by studying towards at least a 2:2 degree.

Additional requirements:

  • Must be computer literate
  • Matlab & Fortran experience is beneficial
  • Finite element analysis is beneficial
  • This must be part of your degree course which requires an industrial placement
