Engineering in the Royal Navy

The Royal Navy works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, all over the world to keep international sea-lanes open and help combat smuggling, terrorism and piracy. Engineers are the backbone of the Royal Navy, maintaining, updating, fitting and testing the sophisticated systems that enable us to be constantly operational. Our 30,000 personnel are involved in humanitarian and relief missions and have the skills, discipline and resourcefulness to make a real difference in people’s lives. The opportunities for managerial responsibility, professional and personal development, sport and travel exceed any in civilian life.

Becoming an Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy is no ordinary graduate job. You’ll go places, work with state-of-the-art equipment and make friends for life. Working with Marine, Air or Combat (Weapon) Systems, you’ll have the opportunity to work on everything from gas turbines to tomahawk cruise missiles, nuclear reactors to helicopters and everything in between. With technology at the heart of everything we do, you’ll be called on to deploy your skills in challenging environments all around the world.

60-second update from the Naval Service.

Hear about the royal navy warships.
