Our graduate Shock & Dynamics Engineers spend two years in specialist teams conducting Analysis and/or Testing to ensure the requirements of Naval Shock are appropriately executed.
The Shock & Dynamics Department (S&D) is a specialist team of engineers, who together focus on demonstrating the suitability of, and/or reducing the vulnerability of, a vessel's systems/crew to Naval Shock. Naval Shock relates to the loading and motion generated in a vessel, and its associated equipment, from Non-Contact Underwater Explosion (NCUE).
You'll be responsible within the Shock team for collating, assessing and producing shock qualification material utilising Mechanical principals to ensure systems and components adhere to the shock requirements across all systems on the vessel. This might see you designing/managing physical shock testing at a specialised facility that replicates the forces/reactions of a NCUE. You will also be involved in the physical design assessments of the vessel and associated Systems.
You'll be responsible within the Dynamics Team for investigating and generating Module/Raft/Seating dynamic design and potentially reviewing Analysis methods or conducting toolset Verification and Validation work. This could involve utilising dynamic inputs to structures, managing the outputs and using design methods to overcome any Engineering difficulties, or advanced Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) techniques.
Working in Shock will expose you to advanced technologies in the field of Shock & Dynamic Engineering including, but not limited to, Solidworks, FORAN and Abaqus.
Graduates will also be provided with the opportunity to experience a broad range of complex equipment and systems at different stages of the engineering lifecycle.
As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
Take your first steps in a career that challenges, rewards and evolves. At BAE Systems you’ll be working on exciting, world-leading engineering and business projects from day one.
