JM stood out to me as the perfect combination of heritage through its 200-year history and innovation through the various products it supplies, all of which have a positive impact on our world. Having been on the programme for a year now, I realised how important it is to be exposed to the different sectors at such an early point in my career. JM is a very diverse business and that directly translates into the scope of the placements we undertake regardless of the stream you are in. In my first placement as a Manufacturing Engineer in Clean Air, I learned a lot about driving and managing projects. These were mainly improvement projects looking at plant attainment and performance. In my second rotation as an operations systems improvement engineer working within ENR, I was tasked with defining and visualising our plant KPIs, ensuring key stakeholders are involved in the discussion from the operators to the finance team.
To help us manage our way around all these diverse sectors and placements – we were each paired with a mentor, usually someone with extensive experience in the business which I have found to be an invaluable connection on both a personal and professional level. The programme is structured very well yet includes a level of flexibility which allows you to tailor the different rotations according to your interests and experience.
