Role Summary/Purpose

The candidate will work on a 1 year internship within the Research & Development group at GE Grid Solutions based in Lisburn, focusing principally on the development of electrochemical sensing methods and technology used in our Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) sensors. They will also provide support for various R&D projects related to our line of DGA products. The role will involve working both in an office and a lab environment, as well as in the manufacturing areas.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinating electrochemical and performance testing campaigns
  • Running a chemical process for material manufacture
  • Implementing improvements to this process as part of an ongoing project
  • Identifying alternative materials and manufacturing techniques for test
  • Recording results and details of tests performed
  • Maintaining a database of material produced
  • Reporting & presenting test results to the wider team



  • Placement year / final year Chemistry undergraduate or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Strong scientific background & interest/experience in hands-on experimental work
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good data-handling skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications for data analysis and presentation
  • Good communication skills

Desirable analytical experience

  • Experience of GC/IR procedure & analysis
  • Understanding of potentiometric techniques
