This is an exciting opportunity to join our Land and Air Systems (LAS) Air Operation and Weapons (AOW) business unit as a Trainee Software Engineer. As a Trainee Software Engineer, you will be working with other Software Engineers and other Engineering Disciplines as part of a project team.

Joining Thales, a global technology company as a Software Engineer, you’ll work four days a week, studying for your degree part-time at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown one day a week, over four and a half years.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

As experience increases the successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Software Requirements Management and Traceability using industry best practice, tools and techniques.
  • Software Test Planning and Execution (Unit, Integration and System Level)
  • Software construction and debugging on multiple real-time platforms using C and C++
  • Documenting all aspects of the software production process in accordance with company processes and standards
  • Development of Windows based applications using C# or C++.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computer programming
  • Experience of developing software applications
  • Display innovation and self-motivation;
  • Exhibit good communication skills;
  • Be able to work efficiently within a team, and individually;
  • Demonstrate dedication and determination in assigned tasks
  • Be capable of time management (study and work)
  • GCSE Maths and English (A to C)
  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent with results in August 2019 (minimum2 ‘A’ Levels) including one or more of the following ‘A’ level subjects which must equate to a minimum of 240 UCAS points:
    • Mathematics
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Computer Science
    • Technology.
