This is an exciting opportunity to join our Land and Air Systems (LAS) Optronics and Missile Electronics (OME) business unit as a Materials Technician. This role will have responsibility for delivering necessary engineering support to design, develop, qualify and produce missile Proximity Sensors/Target Detection Devices, Hard Target Fuses, safety & arming units for complex weapons and missiles.

This is a great opportunity for someone with previous experience working in Material Engineering who is keen to use their communication and relationship building skills to drive through best practice and implement improvements.

Key duties:

Undertake investigations on material behaviours to support design, development and production
Activities will cover:

  • Use of scanning electron microscope
  • Handling metals, adhesives, plastics and epoxies
  • High and low temperature testing
  • Basic electronics assemblies
  • Reporting and presentation of results.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • HND engineering/physics
  • General interest and good understanding of mechanical design concepts and analysis of mechanical systems
  • Good understanding of properties of materials
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing techniques and procedures
  • Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
