The role

Thales UK has an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Manufacturing Team in Templecombe, Somerset. This role will be working within one of or growing business units, Maritime Mission Systems (MMS).

Key responsibilities and tasks:

  • Assembly of Mechanical Structures and their sub-assemblies.
  • Mechanical assembly of moulding tools.
  • Modification of existing hardware as identified in modification instructions.
  • Assembly in accordance with route cards and data packs comprising drawings, Manufacturing Instructions and design change documentation.
  • Encapsulation of assemblies using potting material, hardeners and adhesives.
  • Over moulding of assemblies using polyurethane.
  • Repairs and rework as necessary to recognised salvage schemes.
  • Accurate use of Mechanical Measuring equipment such as micrometres, verniers, Slips, Gauges etc.
  • Familiarity with appropriate company documentation and workmanship standards
  • To communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to all levels within the organisation.
  • Consistently meets requirements of the Thales Quality system in terms of hardware and accompanying documentation.

Skills, experience & qualifications

  • Good all round education which include Maths and English with basic computer knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work as a key member of the team
  • Recognised Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent is preferable but not essential.

Security Level:

This vacancy also requires the individual to be able to obtain full Security Clearance (SC) + UK National. In conjunction with SC requirements, you must also be a UK national due to the nature of work and associated customer(s). Due to government security requirements, the term “UK Nationals” must exclude anyone who is a dual national or naturalised British (i.e. originally a foreign national).

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
