Do you have a Bachelors or Masters degree in a numerate, scientific or engineering subject coupled with experience conducting research activities? Are you interested in a career as an Algorithms Engineer or Data Scientist? Thales Optronics in Glasgow design and manufacture a diverse range of Optronics products including thermal imagers, laser rangefinders, vehicle sighting systems, submarine periscopes and Optronics masts.

Due to our dedication and drive to increase knowledge and capability on neural-networks, we’re seeking talented Engineers, with strong mathematical and machine learning skills who can apply their knowledge in an innovative Algorithms Engineering role.

Applying to Early Careers at Thales

As an Algorithms Engineer you have the opportunity to work in all aspects of algorithms engineering including:

  • Designing, developing and verification of algorithms, processing multiple sensor modalities for a diverse range of applications.
  • Evaluation and extension of state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms from academia.
  • Deployment of algorithmic solutions on different processing platforms.
  • Supporting field trials of sensors and processing systems.

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Bachelor, Masters Degree (BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc) or PhD in a numerate, scientific or engineering subject.
  • Experience conducting research activities during studies or in a work environment.
  • Competent in at least one programming language (such as Python, C++ or MATLAB).
  • Have an understanding of image processing techniques.
  • Demonstrate experience in technical computing.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
