While studying Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at University, in my final years, I have had an unusual journey into Thales. Having studied International Politics and Economics at University in Germany I have always been keen on matters of defence and international trade. A friend and I set up our own marketing business after University – we had a great time, but owing to other life commitments I was looking for a change. Having got to know Thales through a friend, I was approached to join the graduate scheme and started with Thales shortly after.
After accepting my role at Thales, I have worked in two very different areas. My first area has been supporting the Sales Executive as part of the Sales Support Team – this has been great seeing how business decisions are made right at the top level.
Later, I joined a front line sales team working on a contract for the RAF as part of AVS. This too has been fantastic – using my entrepreneurial skills as part of a large scale business development opportunity.
The team at Thales are so approachable and always willing to support someone who is eager to put themselves forward. The work is very varied – I have had the opportunity to work on reforming internal processes to conducting market research on competitors and future opportunities – it has been a blast!
Most of all I have enjoyed knowing that I am working toward a career. Thales allows you to build your own network within the company. The ethos is very much one of ‘How can we all help each other out’. In short, it is a great place to work.
