As a Mechanical Engineer Trainee, you will be working under the guidance of the Mechanical Design Work Package Manager and be involved in all aspects of the mechanical product life cycle including specification, concept generation, design, implementation, integration, test and in-service support.

Fulfilling a 9-12 month placement, this is an ideal opportunity for a student or equivalent to gain excellent industry experience, working alongside a diverse workforce of graduate, trainee and experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Assist Executive Engineers in the provision of innovative and unique solutions in the design, development and delivery of the mechanical hardware required for new projects or in the modification of existing hardware.
  • Interaction with stress, aerodynamics, manufacturing, procurement and supply base to ensure optimised, robust, cost effective designs
  • Maintain the processes and procedures related to Mechanical Hardware Development within the company.
  • Advise the Specialists of technology developments in the mechanical area including methodologies and selection of tools.
  • Provide Mechanical contribution on project work packages within the company
  • Participate in and contribute to company continuous improvement projects when required.

Skills & Behaviours

Thales is committing to hiring individuals with a “can do” and positive attitude with a willingness to learn and improve on skills and knowledge. We are open to hear from individuals with a real interest and aspiration to pursue a career in Engineering, along with some of the key attributes:

  • Currently Studying an Engineering & Science related degree or equivalent (preferably in second or third year of degree programme)
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a genuine appetite to systematically solve problems end-to-end
  • Knowledge of Material selection and Surface Treatments would be desirable
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as individually
  • Comfortable with IT packages such as Microsoft office.
