About this role

Sales Development Engineering (SDE) at National Instruments is a proving ground for future Account Managers. You will be accountable for fielding, identifying and converting new customer & new project opportunities for the sales organisation. For driven, passionate individuals, willing and able to build skills quickly, you can accelerate your technical sales career here at National Instruments.

This role offers fantastic ongoing training & development opportunities with the successful applicant proving integral to the company’s success. Customer engagement will be of key importance for this position, alongside an ability to utilise technical sales knowledge to build the pipeline, generate growth and maximise customer relationships.

The successful applicant will demonstrate confidence in sharing new ideas and will strive to keep updated with market developments, competitors, customer demand and new product lines to develop their business acumen, customer liaison and soft skills. Maximising sales and revenue opportunities through B2B relationship building is the key focus within the position and applicants will demonstrate resilience and a passion to succeed.

What you get to do with our team

  • To manage inbound customer calls and email queries to problem solve, sell and support as required.
  • To liaise with customers identified from Marketing Qualified Leads (MQL’s) and provide an exemplary level of service.
  • To have a strong understanding of KPI’s and engage in sales generation activities to maximise new and lapsed business opportunities across a variety of sectors.
  • Forecast & create a well-qualified pipeline of sales opportunities to build upon – takes responsibility for managing personal lead queues and demonstrate a proactive outlook.
  • Work with Customer Services to resolve customer issues and provide technical advice.
  • Recognise, recommend and lead Continuous Improvement projects to further develop Inside Sales.
  • To understand, evaluate and apply technical information to customer requirements and provide an innovative approach to develop prospect B2B sales.
  • Work with Sales Managers to further develop and evolve the SDE function within the business.
  • To provide thought leadership and mentorship to SDE’s and other Inside Sellers as required.
  • Perform various campaigns around trade shows, specific events, or targets in addition to ongoing primary lead generation activities.
  • Meet or exceed quotas for qualified leads.
  • Other ad-hoc duties maybe added as business needs change.
  • Establish, develop and maintain business and customer relationships.

Why you are a Sales Development Engineer:

  • Engineering or Physics background.
  • Technical aptitude and understanding of electronics and high-level programming languages.
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate strong verbal and written English skills.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and problem-solving skills and will be proactive in pursuing any sales opportunities.
  • Successful applicants will be able to establish relationships, demonstrate effective communication skills, be confident in making decisions and be committed to learning and developing within the role and team.
  • A strong understanding of instrumentation, electronics and programming languages at a high level is advantageous for this role.
