Reward Operations UK is part of the Airbus Reward Centre of Excellence and comprises a dedicated team of specialist advisors that provide a full payroll, personal administration, time & attendance and query management service to all the divisions that form part of the Airbus Group in the UK. We take pride in offering the best service to internal and external customers.

Our Payroll Business Degree Apprentices get the unique opportunity to work across all payroll and reward operation functions and a variety of teams, giving you the “university experience” with 3 whole years of invaluable industry experience.

This degree apprenticeship will enable you to gain broad exposure to our daily payroll operations, focusing on project and change management You’ll gain both academic knowledge and on-the-job training at our site in Broughton (North Wales) near Chester, whilst earning a full-time salary and paying ZERO fees to do so. You will work within the following teams: 

  • Payroll Operations
  • Payroll Input including query management and data processing
  • System and process improvements
  • Project and Change Management
  • Reporting 
  • And more

This exciting three year apprenticeship offers you a full degree without fee in Applied Business Management BSc (Hons) which is delivered by Swansea University with our training partners at Coleg Cambria Northop (North Wales), with day release study to complement your placement activities.

You will also work towards ILM Level 4 Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management and ILM Level 4 Diploma in Management. You will also have the opportunity to achieve a widely recognised PRINCE2 project management qualification.

What will you be doing?

As a Payroll Business Apprentice you will be involved in a variety of day-to-day payroll tasks, as well as various projects. Our payroll team - Reward Operations UK - provides a fully managed payroll service to all UK divisions; Airbus Commercial, Airbus Defence and Space, and Airbus Helicopters. Your work will be a combination of the following:

  • Supporting our payroll teams to deliver on-time, 100% accurate payroll solutions
  • Working with our digital transformation teams to develop new and improve existing tools to enable efficient payroll processes
  • Helping front-line service desk teams to enable high levels of employee satisfaction
  • Supporting our technical reporting team providing critical business information
  • Working with our expertise team to ensure that the payroll elements linked to pensions and financial reconciliation are managed correctly.

You also have the opportunity to pick your own placements that are not within your immediate area of study, such as facilities, procurement, operations, safety and many more.

We are looking for ambitious, hardworking individuals who are excited by the opportunity to develop a wide variety of knowledge and skills whilst working towards an excellent respected business degree.

In order to be eligible for this Apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:

  • Three A Levels at grade B or above with one being in Business Studies and a further two subjects such as IT, Economics, English Language, Maths or Welsh Baccalaureate.


  • A Business BTEC Extended Diploma (18 Units) DDM grade can be accepted as an alternative to the three A Levels.


  • Equivalent qualifications

There must be a minimum GCSE 4/C qualification in Maths or Numeracy and English Language or equivalent
