Degree Apprenticeship

Project Manager Degree Apprentice

We are looking for a Project Manager Apprentice with a ‘can do’ attitude to join our Programme Delivery team in the Intelligence UK business area at Airbus Defence and Space.

The world is a beautiful place

At Airbus, we strongly believe a successful business is a responsible business.

As the successful candidate you could be working on the development of systems to support new satellite imagery processing chains, the migration of  our products and services to cloud hosted environments or managing the development of a brand new product or service in its entirety.

You will feel equally at home in a fast paced challenging environment or at times when the challenge is to keep your project moving forwards when things are a little slower paced.

About us:

Everything is somewhere! We use the power of geospatial information and satellite imagery to address some of the biggest challenges faced by society today: climate change, sustainability, agriculture, energy, finance, public safety, maritime surveillance, and defence.

From operating state-of-the-art satellites, to helping fire-fighters get the right information to target their efforts at the scene.

Our teams are made up of diverse expertise from across many disciplines, bringing a unique opportunity to work with individuals who are truly passionate about what they do.

The UK Intelligence Programme delivery team is a group of high performing and flexible Project Management professionals who work across all teams to deliver projects that push the boundaries of technology to help address users’ needs by providing products and services that help our customers to increase security, optimise mission planning, improve management of resources and protect our environment across wide variety of applications which include maritime surveillance, precision agriculture, emergency response and environmental monitoring.

We use Agile, Waterfall and hybrid methodologies as appropriate to deliver our projects.

What will you be doing?

You will work as a member of the programme delivery team alongside our experienced programme and project managers to support our top company objective ‘enable the future’ by ensuring we deliver on our programmes and services.

No two days will be the same; you will be working on projects which can vary in complexity and duration across a variety of market domains. You will develop the skills to manage end to end project delivery, to manage and steer all aspects of a project working closely with other teams to align and coordinate requirements, timeframes and resources.

You will gain experience of managing competing demands, adapting quickly to changing priorities, communicating effectively across a wide variety of stakeholders and quickly building strong working relationships.

In addition to the Apprentice training programme, you will become a member of the Airbus programme management community with access to comprehensive project management support network and training programmes to support your development path and ensure you are equipped with the skills needed to excel at your job including an internal project management certification programme closely linked to the Project Management Institute (PMI™).

About you!

Please note, we love your interest in working for Airbus but we do ask that you make only one application. We encourage you to take time to decide which of our exciting opportunities is right for you and then submit an application that best represents you, your skills and experience in connection with the role you have selected.

Academic requirements

  • 3 GCE “A” Levels at Grades A to C, or a vocational equivalent.
  • Apprentices are also expected to have typically achieved Maths and English at Level 2 prior to starting the apprenticeship.

You have an interest in project management, working in a diverse environment with multi-functional teams and understanding the benefits of how projects can deliver real value to customers making their day to day life easier. As the successful candidate you will need to demonstrate:

  • Time management – you will spend time working out how other people spend their time, but it's equally important to be skilled in managing your own workload. It's your job to prioritise and delegate tasks successfully. You need to be skilled at identifying the most important tasks, and deferring requests that will get in the way of completing priority tasks.
  • Organisation - the job demands a high level of responsibility from setting goals, creating estimates and timelines, scheduling and tracking the progress of a project to managing meetings - how can a project manager organise the work of others if they’re unorganised themselves?
  • Communication - you need to be able to clearly articulate ideas, goals and project issues to a variety of people, from team members to stakeholders. Your written and verbal communication skills should be straight forwards, clear and concise to make sure the important messages are communicated. Good listening ability is also essential.
  • Negotiation - project managers need to be excellent negotiators in order to find common ground to accomplish project goals. You'll need to work with teams, often with competing interests to negotiate resources, budgets and schedules.
  • Risk management - identifying and managing risk is key; you need to stay ahead of the game and predict and create solutions to problems before they arise.
  • Leadership - being able to lead your team, as well as manage their activities is vital. You need to be able to inspire team members, set the project vision and motivate your colleagues.

  • 37 hours per week //  Half day Fridays!* // 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays // Pension // Success share // Plus many more flexible benefits!

*Please ensure that a covering letter detailing motivations and suitability for this position is included in your application.*
