About us: 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Single Aisle Wing Value Stream Management team (VSM). The Single Aisle Wing VSM has a responsibility for managing business, industrial planning and strategy (focusing on Wing) to ensure a smooth flow of wings to the Single Aisle Final Aircraft Assembly Lines in Toulouse, Hamburg, Mobile and Tianjin.

As part of this placement, you will work in the Single Aisle VSM team alongside the end to end manufacturing system for Single Aisle wings in Broughton while collaborating with transnational stakeholders. This is a unique opportunity to have exposure to the wing industrial system and its integration within the entire Airbus Single Aisle industrial system.

Projects to increase industrial capacity, improve product quality and enhance industrial flows through the value stream will be the key focus for this placement. 

The Single Aisle VSM team is very active with the overall Early Careers programme at Airbus. Many Ex Placement Students and Graduates remain part of the team. We are passionate about supporting Early Careers employees with effective coaching and mentoring and supporting personal development goals. 

What will you be doing? 

As the successful candidate, your main activities will include:

  • Working closely with other functions and our final assembly line customers in Toulouse, Hamburg and Mobile building effective relationships and networks to support delivery of aircraft. You will develop your ability to work in a transnational and multicultural environment and significantly improve your communication skills.
  • Working with aircraft design and engineering teams to support technical improvements.  You will get an understanding of aircraft assembly processes and engineering requirements.
  • Assessing capacity of the value stream and implementing strategic projects to increase this in line within the overall single aisle capacity management plan. You will gain exposure to strategic projects and understand their impact on the production system. 
  • Supporting the deployment of digitalisation within the value stream. You will improve your digitalisation skills in a production and business environment.
  • Contributing to projects supporting the wing 2025 strategy including Digitalisation projects, Product development and industrial improvements as well as projects improving the value stream in both the FAL and in Broughton. You will develop project management and presentation skills alongside your knowledge of project management tools which can be easily transferred to other industries. 
  • Managing the costs of projects. You will be supported through appropriate training and develop strong financial awareness. 
  • Working closely with internal and external suppliers when issues arise to ensure timely closure, robust root cause analysis and mitigation through lessons learnt. You will improve your problem solving skills and awareness of the supply chain.

About you!

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. 

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Studying for a degree in Engineering, Business Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain / Logistics or other related disciplines.
  • Interest in Aircraft production/Aircraft engineering.
  • Interest in digitalisation and proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Tools.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and to collaborate closely with a wide range of people
  • Structured and analytical way of working with ability to break down complex problems/challenges into smaller pieces. 
  • Willingness to learn and ability to handle change on a day-to-day basis working within a dynamic environment.
