Graduate Materials Scientist

I joined the National Nuclear Laboratory in September 2021 as a Materials Scientist after studying Materials Science (MEng) at University of Oxford for 4 years

As a Graduate Materials Scientist within the Materials and Reactor Chemistry team, I work on a variety of projects with renowned experts in the fields of Reactor Pressure Vessel steels, fuel cladding and irradiation damage. The future technologies of SMRs and Gen IV reactors will require innovative materials and safety measures, which makes my work vital in getting Nuclear to help achieve Net Zero.

Since joining NNL, I’ve loved how welcoming and friendly the community is. Everyone is willing to help and you’re entrusted with responsibility from the beginning. On my first day I was designated Task Lead for a contribution to an internationally-funded project.

The focus on personal development at NNL is refreshing. There are so many great opportunities to enhance your skillset and get involved with activities outside of your day job.
