Graduate Environmental Services Engineer - Buildings - UK-wide

At Arup, we design and deliver groundbreaking icons through our work in infrastructure, building design and specialist technical services. Independent in ownership and spirit, we’re a global firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical experts who use our skills to make a positive difference in the world.

Well-designed water and waste systems are essential to successful, healthy and sustainable buildings. Arup’s environmental services engineers (sometimes known as public health engineers) tackle diverse challenges – from sustainable strategies to fire suppression systems, and from drainage in high-rise buildings to supplying ultra-pure water and piping specialist gases and fluids for healthcare, science and industry facilities. Additionally, in the Solihull office, our environmental services engineers also carry out civil engineering tasks such as below ground drainage design, flood risk assessments and specialist road and pavement designs along with associated earthworks required for new and existing building construction.

Together with Arup’s mechanical and electrical engineers, we provide integrated building services. We also collaborate with water engineers to ensure that plumbing and infrastructure work together, in sympathy with the complete water cycle.

The design of sustainable water management systems helps save water and the energy associated with its use, from pumping to heating. From sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) to water reuse, our expertise helps clients to make better use of water and energy, and to make their buildings and sites more resilient.

Arup also helps shape the debate on environmental services (public health) engineering in professional and regulatory forums. Where we see strong potential for positive change, we assist clients in research and product development and also pursue in-house research and development.

Our environmental services team offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments:

  • Commercial and residential developments
  • Universities, Colleges and Schools
  • Hospitals and healthcare buildings
  • Laboratories and research facilities
  • Transport projects, including airports and rail stations
  • Sports facilities and stadia
  • Theatres and performance venues
  • Museums and Art Galleries
  • Large-scale industrial and manufacturing facilities
  • Data centres
