Launch your career with Arup:

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

Create your own path at Arup

"You're given a lot of flexibility in terms of what area you want to specialise in. There's no formal training schedule, so it's up to you to create your own path." Mira, Graduate at Arup. To watch the full Gradcracker/Arup webinar, click here.

Overview of role:

Arup's design and engineering skills shape a full spectrum of water solutions. We see water in context. From delivering water infrastructure to advising on natural catchments, we consider commercial, economic, environmental and social implications.

Our global hydrogeology expertise underpins Arup's project work, from design of buildings and infrastructure to consulting advice for city resilience.  We advise on projects in the realms of water, energy, road & rail, highways, aviation, dams, mining, reservoirs, tunnels & underground spaces, flood mitigation and sustainable water management strategies.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Graduates will be working in a multi-disciplinary office, preparing hydrogeological assessments, models and designs in co-ordination with a team of expert hydrogeologists for projects across a wide range of markets. The candidates will be expected to have a good understanding of groundwater modelling and some experience with GIS for interrogating and presenting data would be useful.  They will be responsible for input to multi-disciplinary projects and for groundwater-specific projects covering groundwater resources and supply, groundwater control and management, contamination and geothermal engineering both in the UK and internationally.

Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will also work alongside experts in other Arup disciplines. With support you will get the opportunity to work on projects across the UK and overseas from time to time.

What are we looking for?

Right now, we're looking for Graduates to join our team of bright professionals in our Leeds Office.
We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • A post-graduate qualification (Masters or PhD) in Hydrogeology
  • Enthusiasm for a career in Geology and Hydrogeology, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of our sector and work and an analytical thought process
  • The ability to visualise geology and conceptualise groundwater flow in three dimensions
  • Some experience with coding languages, finite element software, or digital design would be beneficial, and an interest in developing digital design and automation ideas
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive, seeking to improve existing ways of working, as well as enjoying working as part of a team

You must be available to start this opportunity in September 2022.

What we offer you:

Beyond a great salary and stimulating, technically challenging work, Arup offers a range of additional benefits to its people.
