Our apprenticeships allow you to study for an academic qualification while working and learning alongside respected, technical professionals. You'll study at a local University whilst working on interesting and varied projects, combining your learning experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. A dedicated mentor and our learning and development team will guide you through your personal and professional development.

Overview of the role:

We are looking for Building Services Degree Apprentices to join our teams across the UK. From your first day you will join a community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards an accredited qualification. You will work alongside and be taught by engineers who designed projects that include the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Brentford Community Stadium, W Hotel in Prague and Car plants for companies such as Jaguar Land Rover and Mercedes. You will help to deliver effective and professional services for a range of high-profile clients and varied projects. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you broaden your skills and progress your career at Arup.

Building Services:

You'll help a team including architects and engineers to design all kinds of systems such as energy management, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, lighting, power, water services, life-safety systems, communications and building transportation. You'll work with renewable and emerging technologies, and enjoy the chance to take part in a wide range of projects - from newly built sports stadia, to the refurbishment of historic premises. Your projects could span a variety of sectors, including education, sports, health and industry. At Arup, you will have the advantage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. BIM enables us to design buildings collaboratively using computer models. As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards a Level 6 degree in Building Services Engineering with one of our local partner universities. You'll specialise in one of the following areas:

Our Electrical Building Services Engineers apply their specialist skills to buildings projects across the globe. We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments: commercial and residential developments, tall buildings, Universities, colleges and schools, hospitals and healthcare buildings, laboratories and research facilities, transport projects, including airports and rail stations, sports facilities and stadia, theatres and performance venues, museums and art galleries, large-scale industrial and manufacturing facilities and data centres.

Mechanical Building Services Engineers aim to deliver the user comfort whilst also ensuring our designs are as efficient and sustainable as possible. This inevitable requires energy intensive systems that are both expensive to install, operate and maintain. Our mechanical engineers develop these systems and help shape many other aspects of building design in projects ranging from hospitals to data centres and office tower blocks to universities. As well as design, our role is heavily reliant on communication. Working together in multidisciplinary teams to optimise the competing requirements of a design. We are constantly looking to develop the way we work and advances is software, computer modelling and virtual reality is rapidly changing the building design process.
