Introduction to Energy, Water and Resources

The energy sector is in transition towards a net zero future. We're committed to working with clients, the wider industry and government partners to get there as fast as possible by exploring low carbon and net zero solutions that are sustainable and long term. Whether it's investment or transaction advice, energy system integration, or the detailed design of energy infrastructure, or supporting the planning of new offshore wind developments we help clients to chart a sustainable path forward.

Arup helps the world manage its water – from the supply of clean drinking water to understanding flood risks, from drainage to sanitation. We've evolved our own ‘Design with water' methodology, drawn on our experiences designing, implementing, and maintaining water infrastructure around the world. ‘Design with water' places an understanding of the local water cycle at the centre of responses to wider local issues like economic development, food and agriculture, community, and energy use.

We use consultancy, engineering, and research to bring the most insightful approaches to energy, water and resource projects wherever they are in the world.

Disciplines available within Energy, Water and Resources

Hydrogeology

Arup's global reach and keen insight into the entire water cycle, and our practical experience in contrasting climates and conditions, brings oversight to our work in water – including infrastructure design and engineering, asset management, flood mitigation, sustainable water management, water strategies and research.

Our hydrogeology expertise underpins Arup's project work, from design of buildings and infrastructure to consulting advice for city resilience.  We advise on projects in the realms of water, energy, road & rail, highways, aviation, dams, mining, reservoirs, tunnels & underground spaces, flood mitigation and sustainable water management strategies.

Typical day to day tasks include, but are not limited to, preparing hydrogeological assessments, models and designs in co-ordination with a team of expert hydrogeologists for projects across a wide range of markets. Key areas we support include input to multi-disciplinary projects and for groundwater-specific projects covering groundwater resources and supply, groundwater control and management, contamination and geothermal engineering both in the UK and internationally. We undertake groundwater modelling and utilise GIS for interrogating and presenting data.

We are looking for candidates with a bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Geophysics, Science or Engineering and a master's degree or PhD in Hydrogeology, Geochemistry or Engineering Geology.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for graduates with curiosity, personal drive, design flair and technical knowhow. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we'd like to hear from you.

You should be available to start this opportunity in September 2023 .

What we offer you:

Beyond a great salary and stimulating, technically challenging work, Arup offers a range of additional benefits to its people.

As a membership organisation, everyone shares in our success through a global profit share scheme. Our people also have access to a range of broader wellbeing benefits.

You'll have access to lots of learning opportunities including a structured induction and ongoing training through Arup university.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to utilise your technical expertise to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in the communities in which we live and work through Arup's community engagement programme.

We've signed the Gradcracker feedback pledge.

(This means that we will supply feedback if requested after an interview.)
