Launch your career with Arup:

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

Overview of role:

We are seeking an industrial trainee for a varied role within the Oasys LS-DYNA software development, technical support and distribution team.  LS-DYNA and the supporting Oasys software we develop is used in the automotive, nuclear and civil engineering community. Its primary use is testing vehicle crashworthiness for the automotive industry, but it is also used in other industries for impact, seismic, geotechnical, and building analyses.

Oasys is the software house of Arup. Under the Oasys brand we develop the Oasys LS-DYNA Environment - complex engineering software used for simulation in automotive, nuclear and civil engineering industries.

We're committed to providing our clients with the best possible service through our product development, technical support, and sales and marketing activities. We're looking for Industrial Placement students for a varied role supporting these activities within the software business. You could be based in either of our Birmingham, London or Manchester offices, depending on your preference.

The successful candidate will:

  • Translate user requirements into new tools, features, or software products specific for those industries.
  • Develop training material and technical documentation for the Oasys and LS-DYNA software (i.e., training videos, ‘how-to' guides and ‘hints and tips' for use by our clients and accessible online.).
  • Perform high level testing of new features developed in the Oasys software.
  • Perform QA tests for the Oasys and LS-DYNA software as part of our formal software release process.
  • Work with the software development and technical support team to improve our services and ensure our help and guidance material respond to client needs.
  • The trainee will also contribute to other team activities when required and some travel may be required.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for engineers with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the industry and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we'd like to hear from you.
